Living History

Mountain Men/ Fur Trappers, The Mescalero Apache, Scouts, Cowboys and U.S. Public Lands all have histories that intertwine here in the Sacramento Mountains. Our Living History staff bring it to life in this series of programs designed to share the greatest stories of the region.

 

Cycling in Nature

Wheeled sports

Scouts will learn care and proper maintenance, safety equipment, safety procedures, respect for the environment, and basic operation and handling of Mountain Bikes.  In this program they'll be guided by staff through our training courses and then the many trails and challenging features of our property and the Lincoln National Forest.

shooting sports

Learn the fundamentals of safety when handling guns as well as the differences between them in our Shooting Sports area. When scouts are done they'll be able to define the mechanisms of each gun and the roles of each person on an active range.

ropes

The Climbing and COPE (Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience) programs teach every scout the heights they can go with advanced team building and problem solving skills. Scouts learn to work in a group and function as a team to meet a series of high and low COPE elements. They'll become familiar with belay devices and climbing systems used in sport climbing and rope rescue.

Trades

Our Trades program area will allow scouts to experience how COOL these crafty professions can be. This area is full of demonstrations by professionals in each field, hands-on practice and plenty of finished product to take home and show their friends.

This ecology program area is an incredible opportunity to learn about the human impact on nature, Modern conservation practices, environmental science and a the best place to play in the dirt!

Let your creativity flow as you learn new techniques in your favorite Art Medium. This program area boasts the most Merit Badge options and the most colorful area and staff. Your scouts are sure to find a new passion with projects and courses in Digital, Performing and Studio arts.

Did you know that you can get payed to play outside? 

Our Outdoor Recreation covers everything from advancing in scouting to advancing in a career in the outdoors. Go to the outer limits, be guided through the Lincoln National Forest, learn how the masters do LNT and leave with knowledge of how to respond to emergency situations in these program tracks.
